Dr. Jane G. Wigginton is the Medical Director and Co-Director of the UT Dallas Clinical and Translational Research Center (CTRC). She received her medical degree from UT Southwestern Medical School and completed her residency at UT Southwestern and Parkland, the latter being the busiest emergency departments in the country. With over 23 years of experience as UT Southwestern faculty in Emergency Medicine, Dr. Wigginton possesses a comprehensive understanding of various medical conditions and specialties, which is instrumental in advancing translational medicine.

Her vast clinical experience in Emergency Medicine has provided her with extensive exposure to many medical specialists, important for facilitating collaboration with physician specialists for research and clinical trials. Dr. Wigginton was also selected as a member of the inaugural class of Clinical Research Scholars and earned a Master of Science in Clinical Sciences with Distinction from UT Southwestern. Her formal training encompasses ethics, study design, observational studies, randomized trials, clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, and scientific communication, including manuscript and grant writing.

With over 20 years of conducting clinical trials and approximately 10 years of research collaboration with UT Dallas investigators and Centers, Dr. Wigginton’s experiences and expertise have proven invaluable. Additionally, she has significant experience in personally securing and assisting with multiple FDA Investigational Device Exemptions (IDEs) and Investigational New Drug (IND) applications. Her active involvement for over 15 years with the UT Southwestern IRB and Reportable Events Sub-committee underscores her expertise in clinical trial conduct, regulations, and execution. Board-certified in both Emergency Medicine and Lifestyle Medicine, Dr. Wigginton is proficient in numerous medical assessments and procedures and provides valuable consultation and hands-on patient research assistance. Dr. Wigginton’s success in securing NIH and other grant funding highlights her ability to bring a clinical perspective to grant proposals, making her an invaluable resource for the CTRC. Her diverse skills and experiences ensure that she effectively supports the center’s mission to translate scientific discoveries into health solutions and advance clinical research.
